Dance Instructor

McKenzie McCormick

McKenzie McCormick started her dance journey in her hometown of Evansville, Indiana and was first drawn to the fun & vibrant style of hip hop. She was encouraged to join the competition team and began technique training in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and contemporary, which lead to traveling across the Midwest to attend competitions & conventions such as Tremaine, StarQuest, Showstopper, and Bravo! At 15, she was asked to start assisting and was teaching her own classes by age 16. She found a passion for the powerful style that drew her to dance initially and began specializing in teaching heels, a jazz & hip hop infused style of dance wearing high heels. During college, McKenzie transitioned from teaching only kids to also teaching adults and continued choreographing for regular classes, special events, and the studio’s annual recital.

After graduating, McKenzie moved to Florida and taught pop-up classes & workshops at different studios & gyms before landing at Fuego Dance Co. where it feels like home. She has trained & taken classes across the country from Los Angeles to Miami to New York City to keep growing her body of knowledge. Her main goal as a dance teacher, choreographer, and instructor is to empower her students to move confidently. She focuses on the outward & inward importance of technique in maintaining mental clarity while dancing. For youth classes this looks like proper turn out with a strong posture, and for adult classes this looks like a fierce strut in heels. With a life wholly dedicated to embodiment in all forms, she also works with her family business making holistic medicine products and maintains her practice as a professional consulting astrologer.
